World Aids day is marked on 1st December every year, since its inception in 1988. This is an international date dedicated to raising awareness of the spread and infection of HIV as well as earmarking good health practices and wellbeing to reduce the stigma and discrimination that surrounds HIV.
On Saturday the 1st of December USAPHO FOUNDATION commemorated the World Aids Day Campaign at our satellite office in Fisantekraal.
We supported the national theme of #Cheka Impilo, #Know your Status, and encouraged people at the event to get tested. This tied in well with our current campaign of stigma and discrimination reduction in the community of Fisantekraal, through community mobilization, community dialogues and support groups.
We were privileged to have people from Department of Social Development, as well as a representative from the United States consulate. Both delivered a brief in support of the topic of knowing your status.
Live entertainment was supplied by Danielle Apollis at our World Aids Day event, as well as testimonies were delivered by people living with HIV.
